What to Expect During Stem Cell Treatment in Istanbul
How a case review becomes a written plan, what the treatment day looks like, and how care continues after you fly home.

Editorial planning illustration. Your own schedule is set after medical review.
It Starts With a Records Review, Not a Booking
Nothing is scheduled before our medical team has read your case. The first step is remote and unhurried: you send your confirmed or working diagnosis, recent specialist notes, relevant imaging and laboratory results, previous procedures, allergies, and a current list of medicines and supplements. Tell us as well what you would like to change, and how it is measured today.
Our team reads those records alongside the treatment you already receive, asks for anything missing, and says what may be appropriate for your case. Sending records is the beginning of a review, not an acceptance for treatment, and some reviews end with us advising against it. You can start that conversation through our medical case review form.
Sourcing and handling
Wharton’s jelly: where our cells come from, and why.
We work with mesenchymal stromal cells from Wharton’s jelly, the gelatinous tissue inside the umbilical cord. It is collected after a healthy birth, with written maternal consent, from tissue that would otherwise be discarded. No harm comes to mother or baby, and none of the ethical questions attached to embryonic sources apply here.
It is also a young, perinatal source rather than adult bone marrow or fat, and it has a low-immunogenicity profile — which is why these cells are studied for use between unrelated people rather than requiring a patient’s own. They expand readily in culture, so a batch can be fully characterised and release-tested before any of it reaches a patient, and they are studied above all for what they secrete: the signalling molecules at the centre of most current MSC research. Before treatment begins, our team takes you through the origin of the material in your plan, how it was handled and what was checked.

01 / ORIGIN
Donation and consent
The cord is donated after a healthy birth, with written maternal consent and documented donor screening.
02 / ISOLATION
Controlled processing
The cells are isolated from the tissue and expanded in culture, and our team explains where that work is done.
03 / VERIFICATION
Release testing
Identity, sterility, viability and contamination checks are recorded, and the results follow the batch.
04 / CUSTODY
Clinical handling
Storage, transport, preparation and traceability are documented for the material used in your plan.
What Your Written Treatment Plan Covers
The plan is a document, not a phone call. It separates the clinical treatment from hotel, transfer and coordination services so you can see what each part is, and it should make sense to you before any non-refundable booking is made. If something in it is unclear, ask us to rewrite that part — patients read their plans to family and to their own clinicians, and it has to survive both.
- The cell material proposed, its tissue source and how it is documented
- Preparation, dose, delivery route and schedule, with the reasoning
- What the treatment aims to influence, the risks, and the alternatives
- Monitoring on the day and the follow-up measures we will track
- An itemised cost, what it excludes, and the cancellation terms
Your Treatment Day in Istanbul
Reassessment
A clinician examines you, confirms your consent and can still change or cancel the plan on the day.
Product check
The material, batch, dose, storage record and expiry are matched against your written plan before anything is given.
Administration
The agreed route, in the agreed setting, with monitoring and emergency arrangements in place throughout.
Discharge
Written instructions, warning signs, medicines, contacts and a record of exactly what was given to you.
Most treatment days are quieter than patients expect. The route named in your plan sets the shape of it: an intravenous infusion, an image-guided injection into a joint and a procedure involving the spinal canal each have their own preparation, observation period and recovery, and your schedule reflects that rather than a standard package.
Planning Your Stay and Your Flight Home
Our coordination team builds the schedule around the clinical advice, not the other way round. How long you stay depends on the treatment, any sedation, your mobility, other health conditions and the observation your plan calls for. Keep bookings flexible until the treating clinician confirms the dates, and ask when you can fly, drive, exercise, restart medicines and return to routine care.
If you need a companion, accessible accommodation, interpreting or medicine storage, tell us early so it is in the plan rather than improvised. Keep your own passport, money, records and return travel within your control, and check what your travel insurance covers, since elective treatment abroad is often excluded. The Istanbul treatment trip planner covers the practical side of the visit in more detail.
Follow-Up After You Return Home
Care does not stop at the airport. Before you travel we agree who answers urgent questions, who reviews your scheduled updates, and what happens if the clinician you dealt with is unavailable. We also agree a small set of measures in advance — a validated symptom scale, medication use, walking distance, joint range or a laboratory value — because a change without a baseline is difficult to interpret.
We share your discharge record with your home clinician whenever you want us to, and we would rather coordinate with them than work around them. For serious or worsening symptoms, seek urgent local medical care first and tell us afterwards; a remote reply is never the right tool for an emergency.
What We Put in Writing Before You Pay
Every point above arrives as a document: the proposal, the consent material, the itemised price with its exclusions and cancellation terms, the named clinician responsible for your care, and the follow-up arrangement. We do not ask for payment before your records have been reviewed and the risks and alternatives discussed, and we do not use a time-limited discount to bring a medical decision forward.
Regenerative medicine treatments are planned individually. Responses vary and no clinical outcome can be guaranteed, so nothing in your plan will describe a result as certain. Suitability is confirmed only after medical review, and treatment is planned alongside your existing care. Our guide to what shapes a treatment cost explains how the price in that document is built.

Editorial Istanbul scene. It is not a clinic, procedure, or treatment outcome.
Arriving with the decisions already made
When the clinical questions are answered before departure, the visit itself becomes logistics. Our coordination team handles the schedule so you can focus on the treatment.
Istanbul Treatment Planning Questions
What happens before I travel to Istanbul?
Everything medical happens first, remotely. You send your diagnosis, recent specialist notes, imaging and laboratory results, prior procedures, allergies and a current list of medicines and supplements. Our medical team reviews them, asks for anything missing, and replies with what may be appropriate for your case. A request for records is a review, not an acceptance for treatment.
What does the written treatment plan include?
The cell material proposed and its tissue source, the preparation, dose, route and schedule, the reasoning for your diagnosis and current health, what the treatment aims to influence, the risks and the alternatives, the monitoring and follow-up, and an itemised cost with cancellation terms. You have it in writing before any booking is made.
What does the treatment day itself involve?
A reassessment by a clinician who can change or cancel the plan and confirms your consent; a check that the material, batch, dose, storage record and expiry match your written plan; administration by the agreed route with monitoring and emergency arrangements in place; and a discharge that gives you written instructions, warning signs, contacts and a record of exactly what was given.
How long should I plan to stay in Istanbul?
The length of stay depends on the treatment, any sedation involved, your mobility, other health conditions and the observation your plan calls for. Our team gives you a schedule before you book, and we ask patients to keep flights flexible until the treating clinician has confirmed it and cleared you to fly home.
Who looks after follow-up once I am home?
Follow-up is agreed before treatment: who answers urgent questions, who reviews your scheduled updates, and what happens if the clinician you dealt with is unavailable. We agree a small set of measures beforehand so that any change can be interpreted, and we share your discharge record with your home clinician when you want us to. For serious symptoms, seek urgent local care first.
Can I keep my existing treatment during this?
Yes, and we plan around it. Regenerative medicine at our clinic is planned alongside the care you already receive, and we do not ask anyone to stop or change a treatment their own clinician has prescribed. If a medicine needs a temporary adjustment around the procedure, that is discussed with you and documented in your plan.
International patient support
Ask our team what your visit would involve
Send your diagnosis, recent records and medication list, and our medical team will set out whether treatment may be appropriate, how many days it would take in Istanbul, and what follow-up looks like from home.
Nothing needs to be booked to begin. Our patient coordination team plans your visit to Istanbul once your treatment plan is agreed.
