Medical Tourism in Turkey: Planning Treatment in Istanbul
How international patients plan a treatment visit with us: the medical review first, then the schedule, the stay, the documents and the journey home.

What Treatment Travel to Istanbul Involves
Most of the patients we treat live somewhere else. Travelling for care works when the medical decision is made first and the logistics follow it, which is how our international patient pathway is arranged: a remote case review, a written plan, then dates.
Istanbul makes the practical half of that easier. It is a large international city with two major airports, broad flight connections and accommodation across many price points, and our clinic sits in Kadıköy on the Asian side of the city. Our Istanbul clinic location guide explains where we are and how to plan around it.
The Medical Plan Comes Before the Itinerary
Our medical team reviews your diagnosis, recent specialist notes, imaging and laboratory results, previous treatment, allergies and current medicines, along with the goals you want to work towards. What comes back is a written plan: what may be appropriate, what it aims to influence, the delivery route, the schedule, the risks, the alternatives and an itemised cost.
Keep your own clinicians in the loop while that happens, particularly if the proposal could affect current medicines, rehabilitation or monitoring. Treatment with us is planned alongside the care you already have. The stage-by-stage treatment journey describes what the days in Istanbul look like once the plan is agreed.
What We Organise and What You Arrange
Your estimate separates clinical care from coordination, so nothing is assumed in either direction. Flights, meals, companion travel and insurance normally stay with you. Keep the plan, consent materials, medication list, insurance details, emergency contacts and travel documents in one file that you and anyone travelling with you can reach.
- A written explanation of the treatment, its goals, risks and alternatives
- A named clinician responsible for assessment, consent, treatment and discharge
- An itemised estimate with currency, exclusions and cancellation terms
- A travel-fitness decision and a realistic schedule for the whole visit
- Transfers, accommodation support and interpreting, where you ask us to arrange them
- An emergency plan for your days in Istanbul and a follow-up plan for home
Planning Your Stay Around Clinical Advice
Istanbul is served by Istanbul Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gokcen Airport on the Asian side. Because we are in Kadıköy, the better choice depends on your flight, your mobility and the traffic when you land. Transfer times vary by hour and weather, so we build margin into the schedule rather than timing an arrival to the minute.
Tell our coordination team early about accessibility needs, a travelling companion, interpreting, medicine storage or fasting instructions, so they are part of the plan instead of an improvisation on the day. Use flexible bookings until the treating clinician confirms the dates and clears you to fly home. The Istanbul treatment trip planner works through the itinerary in detail.
Documents, Entry Rules and Insurance
Entry requirements depend on your nationality and passport and can change, so check official Turkish government information and your airline before booking. If you need an appointment letter or other supporting document from us, ask early and confirm the format required. Travel insurance often excludes elective treatment abroad and anything arising from it; read your policy rather than assuming the cover is there.
Understanding the Full Cost of the Visit
A single package figure can hide tests, medicines, companion travel, changes to the length of stay, local follow-up or care for a complication. Ours is itemised instead, and our treatment cost guide for Turkey explains what moves the total. If another country is on your shortlist as well, the comparison of treatment in Turkey and Mexico sets out what actually differs between destinations.
Researching Your Condition Before You Decide
Our condition guides explain how we approach treatment planning for individual diagnoses, including multiple sclerosis, autism spectrum disorder, back pain and osteoarthritis.
Regenerative medicine treatments are planned individually. Responses vary and no clinical outcome can be guaranteed. Suitability is confirmed only after medical review, and travel should follow that review rather than lead it.

Let the medical plan set the pace
With records reviewed and responsibilities agreed, the travel details become straightforward. We leave room for reassessment, recovery and a safe journey home.
Travelling to Istanbul for Treatment
Why do international patients travel to Istanbul for treatment?
Istanbul is a large international city with two major airports, wide flight connections and accommodation at many price points, and our clinic coordinates the whole visit around one written plan. The city is the practical part of the decision; whether treatment is appropriate for you is decided by medical review of your records, not by geography.
What happens before I book anything?
Our medical team reviews your diagnosis, recent reports and imaging, current medicines and goals, then sets out in writing what may be appropriate, what the visit would involve and what it would cost. Flights and hotels come after that document exists, never before it.
How long should I plan to stay in Istanbul?
It depends on the treatment, the pre-treatment assessment, any sedation, the monitoring your plan calls for, and the clinician's decision on when you are fit to fly. We give you a schedule during planning and ask you to keep bookings flexible until the treating clinician confirms it.
Which Istanbul airport should I use?
Istanbul is served by Istanbul Airport on the European side and Sabiha Gökçen Airport on the Asian side. Our clinic is in Kadıköy, on the Asian side, so the practical choice depends on your flight, your mobility and the traffic at the time of day you land. Confirm the arrival details and any transfer arrangement with our coordination team in writing.
Do I need a visa to travel to Turkey for treatment?
Entry requirements depend on your nationality, passport and purpose of travel, and they change from time to time. Check official Turkish government information and your airline before booking. If you need supporting documents from us, such as an appointment letter, ask our coordination team early and confirm the format required.
What do you organise, and what do I arrange myself?
Your written estimate states this line by line. It names the clinical care we provide, the coordination services we can arrange such as transfers, accommodation support and interpreting, and the items that remain yours, typically flights, meals, companion travel and travel insurance.
How is my care handled once I return home?
Before you travel we agree who answers urgent questions, who reviews your scheduled updates and what happens if the clinician you dealt with is unavailable. We share your discharge record with your own clinician when you want us to. For serious or worsening symptoms, use urgent local medical care first and tell us afterwards.
